1: Tell us a bit about you and how you got into Homeopathy:

I am in private practice for 8 years, and am truly passionate about helping individuals in their healing journey. I always wanted to be in a field where I can make a difference to the suffering of human beings, and what better way than being part of a natural and plant based healing system of medicine. Patients battle with only using one system of medicine, when there are other options.

2: What are the benefits of Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine where the medicine is natural and non toxic. In South Africa, Homeopaths are primary care doctors, and the only difference with normal GP’s are that we only dispense complimentary medicines. Homeopathic medicines are also patient- centric, meaning they are prescribed according to your symptoms, as you are an individual.

3: Can Homeopathy assist anyone, from children to adults? Yes, our best work is done with children and woman- with pregnancy.

4: Many women are experiencing a form of hormone imbalance and endometriosis and pcos amongst other conditions are becoming more common, what is your advice for these women?

Not everything can be solved with chronic surgery and hormone replacements. One has to look at complimentary medicine as a viable and legitimate treatment for your condition. One has to also look at making major and permanent lifestyle changes to prevent recurrence of endocrine disorders as there are multiple systems that may be involved.

5: Do you recommend diets and exercise being a big factor in hormone imbalance?

This is 100% and absolute must 🙂 There is no other way to have a turn around without the foundation of a healthy diet and lifestyle. It is never too late.

6: Please share some tips with our readers on how to promote healthy Hormone health:

Start with a plant based diet, that has lots of fibre from nuts, seeds and legumes- These foods assist in balancing hormones. Cut down on stimulants, like caffeine, sugar and salt. Seek professional help with a registered homeopath to give you a second opinion over your conditions and to prescribe specific medicine for you.

7: Is it true this all begins in our Gut, and the foods we consume?

The gut is the entry point of absorption in the body, and plays a major part in hormone building. This is where your body decides what to let in or not. High hormone foods (Like dairy and red meat) can negatively affect the gut, as well as your own bodily hormones. The starting point is changing your diet to support hormone health.

8: What to expect from a consultation with a Homeopath for someone who has never experienced a consult?

An initial consultation is usually one hour long! We prescribe based on a patient holistically (mental, emotional and physical symptoms). We will advise you on diet and lifestyle changes. To a homeopath, you are an individual, so your prescription is tailor made for treating you. We also assess the ‘normal’ things, like bowel movements, sleep habits, energy levels, eating patterns etc. in order to correct your foundation.

9: For anyone looking at studying Homeopathy what advice do you have for them:

You must be passionate and patient, as it is a long degree, and a calling, not a job 🙂 . Get treated by a homeopath as well, so that you understand the system and responsibility when working with patients.

10: Anything else you would love to share with our readers, maybe a recipe or tip for balanced health:

I truly believe that foundation building and maintenance is the basic price for a healthy body and mind… work on regulating your breathing, sleeping, eating and resting patterns WITHOUT medicine. Any disease that affects you can be alleviated once these are regulated. Eat more variety and fresh foods, that are not processed. This will take you a long way. I always recommend a basic smoothie recipe to kick start increasing whole foods in your diet, especially as breakfast:

2 x green veggies (start with neutrals- cucumber, baby spinach, celery)

2x fruit (any fruit, even apple and banana are great)

1x cup of water/ cold rooibos or green tea

1cm of fresh ginger root

1cm fresh turmeric root
