Spanakopita or spinach pie is a Greek savory pastry. It’s made up of chopped spinach, feta cheese, onion, seasoning and egg.
This is a childhood favourite, as my mom learnt to make this amazing Greek pastry!
This is my version of Spanakopitas. Hope you enjoy!
- 1 box of phylo pastry
- 1 bunch of fresh spinach
- 1/2 a onion
- 1/3 block of butter for greasing each sheet of pylo
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 blocks of Feta Cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon of pink salt
- A pinch of Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 small egg optional
Grease each sheet of pastry, each layer with melted butter, use a brush for even finish.
Chop up onion and add to heated Olive oil, Add the spinach and cook for a few minutes, don’t overlook, add spices and allow the spinach to cool down.
Add feta cheese to the spinach once it’s cooled down.
Cut the pastry into squares then add your filling.
Bake at 180-200 for 10-12 minutes, the pylo pastry burns very quickly so make sure you keep an eye on your oven.
